POETRY IN 100 WORDS (GBE #7)

Photo from Google Images

 POETRY

Not a romantic
Bone in my body
Doth yearn
For poetry

Truth be known
Poetry makes me cry
Tears of boredom
In particular poems
That don’t
Rhyme

Could I guess what
Enchants
Those who love
Poetry?

My guess is
Rhythm
Cadence
And a
Stirring of
Emotion

YET~
It seems that
Some~
(NOT
ME!)
Consider words
Down
The
Middle
Of
A
Page~
To be poetry

No rhythm
No cadence
A touch of
Emotion~
Or
Not~

This is
Poetry?

In my
Humble opinion
That.
Is.
Not.
Poetry!

It is
Garbage
Strewn
Down
the
Page.

Just
    Trash!

  Not my
Cup
Of
Tea!

  1. I love it! This is priceless! While at times, the poetry that I have read is really good, at other times like you it makes me wonder why. I would much rather read a great blog or story if given the choice. Well done on the 100 word theme!!

  2. Thank you, Kathy. I do enjoy a poem that is rhythmic. But if it does not rhyme or have cadence, all is lost with me. I'm out of there. LOL

Thank you for reading. I've been AWOL too long with the cares of the world. I'm back! (I hope)

  3. Ha Ha!! I love your honesty!! I guess my brand of poetry might be out then. I don't do well in poetry. I do love to read someone who writes it well---but I do just what you can't stand with my brand. *Sigh* You'll just have to love me anyway. LOLOL!! Loved this...it made me laugh out loud--for real. Cheers, Jenn

  4. Agree with you completely. Poetry should have at least some kind of cadence and imagery. Otherwise, it's just prose with carriage returns at odd spots. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of rhyme that wasn't really poetry because that's all it did--rhyme. Poetry is really hard to define. : - )

  5. Sorry, Jenn, but in your defense I will say that you are a great writer and I can honestly say that there are exceptions that just work! I'm not innocent. I wrote a blog once that was a string of words down a page, but it told a story. I'll share a link with you if you want to point and laugh. LOL

@ Angela: "prose with carriage returns at odd spots"... First of all, I love this comment. It is a colorful description for a jerky, directionless cluster of words. I may borrow that some time...*wink, wink, wink* Unfortunately, I am lacking in education regarding poetry and prose because I think I nodded off every time it came up in school or college. I do, however, enjoy some poems. I have a blogger friend who writes wonderful poems. She precedes many of her poems with a little narrative, then the poem tells a story. Oh what fun she presents in a poem. Here's a sample: http://www.myspace.com/grannysally53/blog/542978942 She is a wonderful and special lady. I hope you enjoy her poems.

  6. Now tell us how you REALLY feel about that kind of poetry :D LOL. I guess when it comes to anything, including poetry, to each his own but I have to agree with you. I like my poems to rhyme.

I'm happy to see that your muse has returned. Be nice to her so she sticks around awhile ;)

  7. I hope she sticks around for a long time. My muse has a tender spirit. When sad things are going on around me, she runs and hides! When I finally buck up and say "OK - so that's the way things are", then she comes back. Maybe I should accept things faster and move on quicker...

  8. Funny, funny, FUNNY! This was terrific! :O)

I like some poetry, but a lot of it bores the daylights out of me, too. I have a friend who writes gorgeous poems--they paint beautiful scenes and evoke all sorts of emotion. Great stuff.

As for me, I'm no poet. Well, except for limericks. I rock the limericks. :O)

  9. I love limericks! Back in the 70's, I used to write limericks and put them in my husband's lunchbox so that he would find them at lunch time. ;-) I've been thinking about having a limerick challenge for one of our BFF topics. Maybe I'll do that next week!

As for poetry, I have one dear friend who writes the best poems ever. I have encouraged her to publish because she is most successful at poems and short stories for children. She is amazing! And I love her poems!

  11. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think I giggled all the way through it when I was writing. *snicker* I'm a little devil sometimes.

  12. I had to laugh! I remember what you said about poetry! and I just had to write a drabble - 100 words - for a contest - it should go live sometime tomorrow. Not easy to do. I really enjoyed this on both levels :D
